9 gauge galvanized chain link fabric is typically installed in commercial or industrial applications. 9 gauge chain link is thicker than 11 1/2 gauge chain link and stronger and is the most common fencing choice for residential, commercial, and industrial fencing applications.
Typically you will find 9 gauge chain link fence used in applications such as well built residential fencing, baseball fields, businesses, dog kennels, churches, day care facilities, federal and state airports, jails, prisons, and high security fences, parks, playgrounds, schools, self storage facilities, tennis courts, universities
For residential fencing a 16 gauge pipe and 17 gauge top rail is common for installation. For commercial and industrial fencing consider a schedule 40 grade piping or equivalent for posts and top rail.
KxK Selvage = Knuckle x Knuckle (Chain link top and bottoms are bent over).
KxT Selvage = Knuckle x Twist (Chain link is twisted at one end to form two barbs, while the other is bent over).
Chain link is available in GAW (Galvanized After Weave) or Galvanized Before Weave (GBW) finishes which have a 1.2 oz coating and meet Class 1 ASTM A 392-96 specifications.
Mesh Sizes: 11 1/2 gauge chain link measures around 2 -1/4" between links, and 9 and 6 gauge chain link measures around 2" between links.

Gauges: With chain link fencing the smaller the number the gauge is, the thicker the chain link. A 9 gauge is thicker than 11 1/2 gauge. With heavier gauges the finish is typically better and it is stronger with a better finish to prevent rust and corrosion.
